Font licensing · Comparison
Envato Elements vs Adobe Fonts vs Monotype Fonts
Two creator subscriptions and one enterprise agreement, compared on the clauses that decide a video project: what a license covers, who may use it, and what is left when you stop paying.
- Envato wins for solo video creators who also want stock footage, music and templates: Core is $16.50 a month billed annually, fonts cover as many projects as you like, and finished projects stay licensed after you cancel.
- Adobe Fonts wins if you live in Adobe apps: 5,000+ fonts are free and licensed for commercial use, and Adobe names in-house or commercial video as a supported use.
- Monotype Fonts is for organizations, not creators: 400,000+ fonts under one agreement, sold by demo with no public price.

How this was compiled. License clauses are quoted verbatim from each vendor's own license, pricing and product pages, read on 19 October 2026: Envato pricing, the Envato Elements License, Adobe Fonts, Adobe plans and Monotype Fonts. Adobe's licensing FAQ refused our crawler that day and is not quoted. No subscription was purchased for this article, and it is not legal advice.
Which font subscription should a video creator use?
A solo video creator should start with Envato or Adobe Fonts, and the deciding question is what else you need. Envato bundles fonts with stock video, music, sound effects and templates; Adobe Fonts comes free at 5,000+ fonts and grows with an Adobe plan. Monotype Fonts is a different purchase: an organization-wide agreement sold through a demo, built for brand and legal teams rather than for one editor. One naming note: Envato's pricing page now sells "your all-in-one creative asset subscription" as Envato, while its license and help centre still call it Envato Elements; they are the same subscription.

The timeline shows the decision in one look. Envato publishes every stage from install to after-cancel, Adobe's font site publishes the use cases but its license FAQ could not be read on 19 October 2026, and Monotype sets the back half of the lifecycle in each customer's agreement.
What does each license cover for video and client work?
The Envato Elements License gives fonts their own rule. For most items, "Each time you download an item, you get an ongoing commercial license for a single, specified project use." Fonts are different: "For Fonts and Add-ons, application of a license is the installation of the Item on your device. The license starts when you download and install the Item, and you can then use the Font or Add-on to create as many projects as you like."
Envato's font clauses are strict about people and devices. A font "can only ever be used by you, the Subscriber," which Envato spells out as excluding "even another person within the same company or a client," and you may install it "on up to two computers per subscription seat at one time." Video is covered generously: each license includes the right to use the item through "broadcast, display, distribution, and reproduction, but only as a part of the End Product." The broadcast exclusion in Envato's license applies to music items, not fonts.
Adobe Fonts states its video coverage on its own site: "Use fonts to create in-house or commercial video content," and "The full Adobe Fonts library can be used for both personal and commercial projects." For websites, "Create a Web Project to add any font from our service to your website."
Monotype Fonts covers the organization rather than a person: Monotype describes "a single, transparent agreement that covers your entire organization," with "centralized reporting and usage tracking" so that "Legal and Procurement teams stay audit-ready." The specific uses are set in that agreement, which is why the table above says so rather than guessing.
What happens to finished work when the subscription ends?
Envato publishes the clearest answer of the three. Its license says: "Any text, designs, logos, or other End Products you created using fonts during your active subscription retain their commercial license permanently." The cost is on the font file itself: "What you cannot do after cancellation is install the font files on new devices or use them to create entirely new projects," and if you have installed a font, "you must uninstall the Item once your subscription ends." Envato's pricing FAQ adds that it does "not refund canceled subscriptions."
Adobe's answer sits in its licensing FAQ on helpx.adobe.com, which returned an error to our crawler on 19 October 2026, so this page does not quote it. On Adobe's own community forum, a Community Expert answered in 2021 that flattened artwork such as JPG and PNG files "is not effected" (sic), while layered work files cannot reuse the font without a subscription. That is a forum answer, not Adobe's license, and the right step is to read the FAQ before you cancel.
Monotype Fonts' cancellation terms are not published on its product page; they are part of each organization's agreement, and they are the first clause to ask about in the demo.
How big is each library, and who is it built for?
The three libraries differ by two orders of magnitude, and the size tracks the buyer. Monotype's catalogue is built for companies that need almost any font; Adobe's free tier for creators who need a good one today; Envato counts its library in assets, with fonts as one category among video, music and templates.
fonts from 5,000+ foundries, one subscription for an organization; price by demo.
fonts on a free account, licensed for personal and commercial use.
creative assets in total, fonts among them; Envato does not split out a font count on its pricing page.
Library size is not the deciding number for most creators. A channel with one visual identity uses three or four fonts; an editor turning around client work weekly uses many. Our four-marketplace comparison covers the per-font stores in more depth.
What does each cost a year?
Envato publishes three creator tiers and Adobe publishes its plans; Monotype publishes no price. Envato Core is "$16.50 /month billed annually or monthly for USD $39," Plus is $39 a month billed annually or $59 monthly, and Ultimate is $168 a month billed annually or $259 monthly. Adobe lists Creative Cloud Pro at US$69.99 a month on an annual plan billed monthly, with new subscribers offered US$34.99 a month for the first three months.
Paying month to month is the expensive way to rent Envato: Core costs $468 a year monthly against $198 billed annually, 2.4 times as much for the same library.
When does buying a font beat a subscription?
Buying wins when your fonts are few and fixed. On the MyFonts family we priced in our MyFonts licensing explainer, a Desktop license for all eight styles is $32.10, bought once, so a creator with one or two signature families spends less in total than a single year of Envato Core. A subscription wins when you need new fonts often, need stock video and music as well, or work across many short client projects.
Per-font licenses come with their own fine print: MyFonts counts Desktop users cumulatively and forbids uploading to Canva. The full arithmetic, including how a per-font bill grows with websites, ads and apps, is in font license pricing compared.

Your subscription exit checklist
Most font-subscription trouble happens the month after cancelling. Copy this list into the project folder before you cancel any font library.
1. Finish and export every project that uses a subscription font. Envato keeps COMPLETED end products licensed; unfinished ones lose the license. 2. Export flattened masters (MP4, ProRes, PNG, PDF) of anything you may re-edit later. 3. List every font in use and where it came from (Envato, Adobe Fonts, MyFonts, other). 4. Envato: uninstall its fonts from every device once the subscription ends, and keep your list of licensed items. 5. Adobe Fonts: read Adobe's licensing FAQ for your plan before cancelling; check websites that use a Web Project font. 6. Monotype Fonts: read the cancellation clause in your organization's agreement. 7. Client deliverables: send rendered files, never the font files. 8. Replace fonts you will keep using with a per-font license or an open-licensed font before the renewal date.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Envato fonts in commercial videos?
Yes. Envato licenses fonts for commercial use, and each license includes broadcast, display and distribution as part of the End Product you create. Envato's broadcast exclusion applies to music items, not fonts.
Do I need a new Envato license for every video that uses a font?
No. For fonts, Envato says the license starts when you install the font, and you can then use it "to create as many projects as you like." Other Envato items, such as stock clips and templates, need a new license for each project.
What happens to my videos if I cancel Envato?
Completed projects keep their license permanently, according to Envato's license. You must uninstall the fonts and cannot use them for new projects after cancelling, and Envato does not refund canceled subscriptions.
Are Adobe Fonts free for commercial use?
Adobe offers more than 5,000 fonts on a free account, "Licensed for personal and commercial use," and names in-house or commercial video as a supported use. The wider library comes with a paid plan.
How much does Monotype Fonts cost?
Monotype does not publish a price. Monotype Fonts is sold as one agreement covering an organization, with 400,000+ fonts from 5,000+ foundries, and the product page offers a demo.
Can a client use an Envato font I downloaded?
No. Envato's license says a font "can only ever be used by you, the Subscriber," excluding a client or a colleague. You can deliver finished work that uses it and point the client to where they can license the font.
